A stylized, formal type of performance dancing, Ballet aims to create graceful patterns and involves rigorous training. It is the fundamental technique for all classes. Dancers at Off Broadway are strongly encouraged to take Ballet with other techniques.
Pointe is an extension of ballet. It requires solid, consistent, and current ballet training coupled with strength in the legs and the core of the dancer's body. A dancer must have at least 3 years of ballet training several days a week to do Pointe.
Movements of tap are concentrated in your feet and ankles. Wearing shoes with metal taps, you tap out the rhythm of the music you are dancing to. Arms, head and hands are important but complementary to the actions of the feet.
Style is angular and disjointed. It employs hip isolations, shoulder shrugs and head rolls. Dance movements are technical and full-bodied; the use of flexibility is implemented in high kicks and large leaps.
Concentrates with expressing a dancer's emotions; it is a very flexible kind of dance. This style of dance uses technical elements of ballet, jazz and modern.
A form of street dance, the newest trend in jazz dance. Movements are bouncy, fast and funky. This style is foot oriented but uses isolation movements, popping and break-dancing.
A style of dance that combines classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements. It is defined by its athletic character and its use of acrobatics in a dance context.
